Youth Teenage Class Is Looking Great
So as we’re winding the year down here at Ocala Karate & Fitness, www.ocalashinbukan.com I just have to say how happy I am with all our Shorin Ryu Karate Programs. You guys and girls have made some HUGE accomplishments over the last year. But most importantly, I hope that everyone is having as much fun as I am. Here at Ocala Karate & Fitness, we try to make our program the absolute BEST in our area. You see I believe that the most progress can be achieved through a combination of: Extremely HIGH level of instruction, and Extremely FUN and EXCITING classes.
I have always taught a Traditional Shorin Ryu Program, but I really try to incorporate High energy Drills into our classes through a FUN and CREATIVE learning environment. And this is the key to our success.
Our conditioning drills and exercises will not only have these guys and girls in GREAT shape, but will start to teach them now at an early age how important physical exercise is. And it all centers around the delivery. By demonstrating how fun exercise can be and by showing them as they grow up the advantages of staying active, will have a long term lasting effect on each one of their lifestyles. Which will hopefully lead to a healthier adulthood.

Focusing On What Matters
So last week in class I was really stressing to our members here at Ocala Karate & Fitness, www.ocalashinbukan.com , the importance of focusing on our self defense drills. One of the advantages to learning Okinawan Karate is the intense focus on Self Defense for Personal Safety. Okinawan Karate is not centered around Sport Karate, which has really influenced most other forms of Karate today.
The Okinawans believed in building 3 characteristics in their people. Strong, bodies, strong minds, and strong spirit. These three fundamental and essential traits that are strengthened through our training, build stronger, more confident, and healthier people. By utilizing the Shorin Ryu Training basics in our Karate classes, our members continue to develop these important traits that lead to the “perfection of character”
And Self Defense training is imperative to everyone in todays world. It doesn’t take long if you turn on the T.V. to find some horribly violent crime, or abduction. This is why its so important to start building the foundation in which an effective Self Defense program can be built. We’ll talk more on this subject in our next post. Until then, train hard in our classes and focus on the key elements that form the building blocks to a healthy, confident person.

And it all starts with you taking control of your life. So take the first step towards a new fresh start, and get started today.
The Basics
So I get told all the time now when we get visitors here at Ocala Karate & Fitness www.ocalashinbukan.com “how do you get your students to perform so well in class. That stuff loooks really hard”. And the truth is . . . It is really, really hard! But with the proper instruction, setting, and other SOLID members to follow in class, learning the art of Shorin Ryu Karate is something that Ocala Karate and Fitness is making attainable to everyone.
You see when starting out learning karate, it is so very important to obtain good solid basics. To an outsider looking in, the basic stances blocks, kicks, and kata might not look very important, but the truth is that they are SO. . .SO very important. A proper understanding of all of these basics is paramount to the beginning student. Close attention, and constant awareness of all the small details must be practiced by all whom begin their journey in Okinawan Karate. Its because of these basics, that a true undertanding of not only karate, but ourself over time is accomplished. Karate, if practiced correctly, strengthens the body, mind, and spirit.
If your going to do it . . . do it right!
Karate will bring balance to the unbalanced. Strength to the weak. Speed to the slow, and focus to the unfocused. I can not stress enough the positive impact that Okinawan Karate can have upon an idividual. Its just one of those things that unless it is experienced, no words can do it proper justice. If you had never seen the color blue before, how would you know what it looked like, AND that you were even missing a color at all? Well our members here at Ocala Karate & Fitness are learning first hand just what an effect that karate can have on them. The proof is on their faces day in, and day out as they enter the Dojo and leave. And its in the shape of a smile. Keep up the hard work everyone. You are on the path to “The Way”.
Can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow.
Balance
One of the most rewarding aspects to training in Okinawan Karate (Seibukan), is balance. Now we all know that practicing Karate in general will build balance, strength, flexibility, endurance, coordination, ect. However, today I really want to focus on the Balance aspect of it.
Why is balance such a HUGE benefit to studying Okinawan Karate? I think it’s safe to say that we are all constantly searching for balance. Balance is one rule of constant. What I mean by that is the entire world revolves around balance. Life as we know it, is a constant struggle of balance. Nature is always pushing towards balance. Animal life, is always striving for balance. Plant life, is always moving to balance. The Earth itself, must continue to stay in balance.
The exercise forms that we practice in Okinawan Karate, promotes and stimulates growth of 3 things. The mind, the body, and the spirit. The traditional teachings and exercises that we practice at Ocala Karate & Fitness, www.ocalashinbukan.com , strengthen all three of these areas. And . . . most importantly, unifies them all into one. True inner peace is the key to living our life to its fullest potential. This hidden strength of unification is something that most people are not even aware exists. But once discovered, can be carried over and allow us as individuals to function in society at our fullest potential. Which in turn leads to “The Perfection Of Character”
The perfection of character is what allows us to succeed at life. It changes the way you look at everything, and the way you react to everything. From problem solving, to ambition and drive. When you are at total peace with yourself, you know and fully understand that we have NO limitations other than what we perceive as possible and impossible. And that is the key to success. Don’t limit yourself with negative thoughts and ideas. Don’t be afraid of losing, or failing. Be more motivated to win, and think positive. Remember, we are who WE determine WE are. Take control of your life, and BE exactly what YOU want to be. Not what you think others think you should be.
Have a great weekend and we’ll see everyone next week.

Youth Class is Looking Great
Alright everyone. After last week I have to say that I’m so happy about Ocala Karate & Fitness’s youth and teen class. I have been talking about this off and on all year long now, but I really have to say after last weeks classes our teen class is doing awesome!
You guys and girls are really making me proud to be your instructor. The advancements that I am seeing in this class is proof that what we practice and train here at Ocala Karate & Fitness www.ocalashinbukan.com. works . . . Period! ! I can’t stress enough how far everyone has come in all aspects of our training.
From floor drills, our ippon kumite sets, kata (forms), self defense, and sparring, everyone is making huge advancements in a positive manner.
I’m seeing students that 4 months ago were slow and timid while sparring, are now taking control of the ring and using multiple combination’s while scoring and defending. That is great! Self Defense skills are now starting to become second nature, and I can see now that reaction without hesitation is beginning to show itself.
And the leadership skills that are taking shape in some of our students is really what makes a huge difference in our lives. These are the skills that carry over into all parts of life. Its about standing up, taking control, and getting whatever task has been assigned done. You see, that’s what we’re all about here at Ocala Karate & fitness. Building future leaders that have confidence, drive, ambition, and goals. These are the qualifications for productive leaders in our society. And right now that’s exactly what our country needs. Looking forward to seeing everyone next week.

Pushing Ourselves
Hope everyone is having a great weekend and enjoying our first “Chill” of the season. With the end of the year approaching, and the hollidays just around the corner I wanted to post real quickly about pushing ourselves.
You see, each one of us has a much different view on where and what we want ourselves to be at, both physically and mentally. This is the time of the year where things start happening quickly and time suddenly gets limited. But this is the most important time to stay on course. It will get very easy to put training off tonight or tomorrow night, but we must try to force ourselves to continue to make time to train.
Our health and exercise dicipline should remain a top priority through out the holliday season. The reason I am saying this is because of the effects of “skipping” training. Every night we skip our training, it becomes so, so much more difficult to get back on track. So the best way to fight this is simply by staying on track. Make it a point this season to sacrifice or move something else in your busy schedule other than your training time. Remember, you train because you not only enjoy it, but its healthy and very important to your mental health as well. So put something else off this year and treat yourself to maintaining your ttaining. You will be much happier the first of the year when you aren’t suddenly sore, and trying to whip yourself back into shape.
Enjoy the weekend and look forward to seeing everyone Monday.
Be safe.
Setting Goals and ACHIEVING them!
So I get calls daily from different folks looking for answers for all kinds of issues that they or a loved one are having. Many of these issues are pretty much the same, just applied or happening under slightly different circumstances. A very common issue that I keep hearing over and over again is “Focus” or “Direction”.
One of the main benefits of practicing Traditional Okinawan Karate is achieving just that. Okinawan Karate, if practiced correctly, and with the right attitude, will not only instill focus and direction in its practitioners, but it will influence and spill over to all those around these students. Why is that? You see people with focus and direction are always on track. They all know where they are going, and usually exactly how to get there. So how does something like Traditional Karate have such a positive influence on these people? Because it teaches us to move in small steps. It makes us break down “Large” complex ideas, actions, movements, or chains of movements, so that we can see and understand all the “SMALL” parts. How is this useful? That’s simple. It allows us as individuals to look at the “BIG” picture, analyze and break it down to the smaller working steps, and then learn those first. By understanding all the smaller parts, we can then formulate ideas of understanding how the sum of all the small parts make the whole.
Expand Your Horizon.
By being able to tackle obstacles or challenges in this fashion, allows us to understand and see that practically anything is possible. We can accomplish just about anything we “Properly” put our minds too. And by doing that, we build confidence. And confidence is a catalyst for success. You always hear over and over again how important attitude is in accomplishing anything. Nothing could be more true than that. A strong attitude, accompanied with confidence in ones self, along with the ability to understand all the small details of the big picture is then carried over from the dojo floor to everyday life. AND THAT is what builds success.
Keep on the path, work hard, and never forget the basics, and you will be able to move mountains.
Hope everyone has a great weekend, and we’ll see you next week.
